Coach Kevin Harris was born in Washington, D.C. During his time growing up in the city of D.C. he developed a love for the game of basketball. It was his love for the game that fueled his desire to improve and gain an edge on his schoolyard competition. Coach Kevin spent many hours on the playgrounds in D.C. honing his basketball skills and developing a competitive nature. However, not only did he practice basketball, he stayed focused on his schoolwork. As a result, all the hard work in the classroom and on the basketball court paid off because, the two combined allowed him to receive a scholarship to Mercersburg Academy Prep School. At Mercersburg things were rough for him at first because he had to adjust to the new environment and the tougher competition associated with varsity level basketball as a freshman.
After Mercersburg Coach Harris red-shirted at Troy St. University and transferred to play one year at Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College. In junior college Coach Harris excelled and was ranked as one of the top point guards in the country by certain publications. From junior college Coach Harris earned a full basketball scholarship to Alabama State University.
At ASU Coach Harris became team captain but an injury prevented his athletic career to excel as in previous years. However, academically, things soared. Coach Harris ended up graduating cum laude from ASU with a degree in Business Management and several athletic and academic honors such as the Dean’s List, First Team Arthur Ashe Student-Scholar, and the Coach’s Award. After graduating Coach Kevin got an opportunity to tryout for the NBA, but after many toils, he ended up playing in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) for the Dakota Wizards.
After his career with the Dakota Wizards, Coach Harris was given the vision of Hoop Life Inc. while praying to the Lord Jesus Christ. He immediately began to build the vision with the help of God. In the process of the vision coming to fruition and manifestation, Coach Kevin got an opportunity to coach at T.C. Williams High School (“Remember the Titans”) and Bishop Ireton High School. In addition, Coach Harris was able to tryout for the Washington Wizards. Currently, Coach Kevin is the Executive Director for Hoop Life, Inc. Also, he resides in Alexandria, Virginia with his beautiful wife, Shawna Harris and their beautiful daughter, Amor Harris. The love and passion of the game is still thriving and alive in him, which he transfuses into his coaching, teaching, training, and occasional playing.
